Alexander David Bregman (born March 30, 1994), nicknamed A-Breg, is a Major League Baseball third baseman and shortstop for the Houston Astros.

Bregman was the first high school athlete to earn the USA Baseball Player of the Year Award as a sophomore at Albuquerque Academy in 2010. The next year, as a junior, he batted.678 and established a New Mexico season record with 19 home runs.

Bregman was named the 2013 National Freshman of the Year by Baseball America, earned the 2013 Brooks Wallace Award as the country’s finest collegiate shortstop, and was a two-time All-American during his three years at Louisiana State University (LSU).

Bregman was taken by the Houston Astros with the second choice in the first round of the 2015 MLB draft at the end of his junior year in college.
