A diving accident off the coast of Florida has claimed the life of a local doctor and hospital administrator. South Shore Hospital’s Chief of Medicine was Dr. Robert McIntyre.

McIntyre, 58, was diving with a group near Palm Beach Inlet on Thursday morning when he went missing. His body was later found by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office diving teams Thursday afternoon.
“Bob was known for his compassion, intelligence, and sense of humor, in addition to being an extraordinarily talented and gifted physician who cared deeply about his patients and colleagues,” South Shore Hospital said in a statement.
“He was a mentor to members of our hospitalist staff, as well as a friend and educator to many other healthcare professionals.” He was instrumental in the development of a first-rate and well-respected hospitalist service.”

There is no news currently on his wife and children.
